To officially kick start my Duke of Edinburg journey, I went on a Bronze trip with my friends and teachers at Ham Lon Trail. Although it was not as interesting and hard as the previous journey, there were still some certain challenges and fun moments that I would like to address.
It was the end of April. Even though we went there for 2 days, the first day was just camping and sleeping in tents, which was horrible. The temperature was not very high, but it was extremely humid. most of us barely got any sleep and was sweating while sleeping. Apart from the horrible sleep, the morning went out great. We woke up early so we had a lot of time to pack up the tents, made breakfast and talked with each other.
The first half of the trail was particularly interesting and different from the previous trip that we went to. For this trail, we met so many trial runners, and other hikers, such as university students too. It was the morning so it was not that tough. Although there were some steep hills and we had to stop more frequently, it was fun. We stopped at a hill for our lunch, then made it to the summit of the trail, where I would mark as the mark that divides the trip in half. Contrary to other people where they would turn back or go any other trails, we went forward and there were no one. However, the sun was coming up and there were defintely more hills. Brining 3 litres of water and more than 1 litre of electrolytes, never would I imagine that I would run out of water soon. However, things got tough when there was no candy, no food source and barely any water left. But as a group, we kept going forward and we came to a coffee shop where everyone had water, I had pineapple juice it was very good.
I would say that this was not particularly challenging, but the high temperature and lack of water certainly made it harder for everyone of us. I’m very glad that I would be certified for this trip and for completing the bronze award.
